Health

The health situation in San Pedro de Zacapa reflects that of the rest of the country which is lacking in all areas. There is not enough funding to keep the clinics in the outlining communities open, to have a permanent physician on staff in the center, nor for necessary medication. Two rural health center en the communities of Agua Caliente and Azacualpa and a private NGO in the urban center of Zacapa had to close their door because of the lack of funding.

Health Center with Doctor & Others – “CESMO”
The center is located in the urban center of the municipality where services are provided for everyone in the municipality. The clinic staffs 2 doctors ( each is doing one year of social services), 3 nurses, 1 lab technician, 1 health promoter and 1 assistant who provide services to an average of 50 people each day with different illnesses.

The center offers the following services: integrated mother/child services, detection and treatment of tuberculosis, immunization, laboratory services, treatment of hypertension and diabetes, HIV/AIDS counseling, minor surgeries, family planning, and health education.

The Buena Fe Clinic/Private Clinics
La Buena Fe Clinic/Private Clinics La Buena Fe Clinic is part of the NGO, La Buena Fe, which is located in Horconcitos. There is also a private clinic located in the urban center.
