Culture Center
“Work,
willpower and sacrifice for a better Zacapa"
The community
center was founded with the initiative of Padre Enrique Silvestre
with the help of businesses in the nearby city of San Pedro
Sula and generous donations from abroad.

The
project was created with the idea to establish a computer
center and a public library. The center is currently under
the direction of the CMCT (Municipal
committee of Science & Technology), a local committee
elected by the community. The center opened as one of
the first nationwide Community Centers
of Knowledge & Comunications (CCCC). The project
is funded with grants from BID (Interamerican Development
Bank) through COHCIT
(Honduran Council of Science & Technology) and the
Presidencial Palace. The center proudly opened it's doors
on May 30th, 2003. |
Currently
we are working with various institutions including PLAN in
Honduras, the Guadalupe Foundation, PRAF, the National Library,
Fondo Cristiano, the local Town Hall and Catholic Church among
others and more importantly with the people of Zacapa to fulfill
our goal of bringing knowledge and technoly opertunities to
our community. There are currently 120 students taking computer
classes (in Windows XP, Microsoft Office and Internet). There
is a monthly inrollment which allows children and adult who
would not otherwise be able to access and learn computer skills
to take classess.
The
center currently employs an administrator—Naudin
H. Tinico, an assistant—Rosa Martinez, a librarian—Marta
Jazmin Pavón and has the help of a Peace
Corps Volunteer—Jonathan Lemon along with several
other volunteers from the organisations organizations
mentioned above.
