Library

Thanks to the agreement signed by the mayor of Zacapa, public library in the Zacapa Cultural Center, is part of the National Network of Libraries run by the Honduran Ministry of Culture, Arts and Sports. At the moment it is the flagship of the department of Santa Barbara in a pilot program.

The Public Library has about 2.000 registered books, in addition to CDs, videos, DVDs and other educational material material.

In addition to books from the government, the library has obtained many generous donations through Reverend Enrique Silvestre from the city of Valencia (Spain) and from the Spanish Ambassador in Honduras, among others.


Thereafter the Honduran National Library, the local technical college, the National Pedagogical University of Honduras and Lottie Browns (a volunteer at an NGO called “Buena Fe”) helped to build the reputation and resources of the library.

The library is open to the public from 8.00 A.M. to 8.00 p.m. It has a regular childens story hour program.

Soon it will be launching a modern digital system for to track the library inventory and the lending and circulation of books. In the library’s main room there are computers with Internet and digital encyclopedias. The library also boasts a large collection of games. The library is open to all, and offers services completely free of charge.
