Municipal Fair

San Pedro de Zacapa celebrates it's annual fair in the last week of June in honor of it's patron saint Peter (San Pedro). At the same time Zacapa celebrates it's founding when it oficially became a municipality 114 years ago.

During the weeklong celebration there are countles activities including:

  • Religious activities—masses in honor of the Apostle Guancasco, religious processions music concerts, theater, babtisms and others.
  • Cultural activities—presentations of theatrical works with local, national and international actors, musical concerts, cultural evenings, folk dances, garifuna and other indigenous music and dancing, poetry, songs, "Ugly King" competition, giants puppetheads, radio plays, floats, among others.
  • Sporting activities—soccer, basketball, rodeo, cycling, althletics, shooting, jousting (with string!), greased pig competition, greased pole competition and much much more.
  • Social activities—meetings between children who live in the municipality and those that live outside, dances, and the famous Honduran marimba music, the corronation of the junior pagaent and beauty queens and much more.
  • Health ativities—in the last few years there has been a health fair with local, national and international medical brigades, a health parade, and special athletic competitiones between astmatics and other disabilities.
  • Ecconomic activities—arts and crafts fair, agricultural displays, dan, and stalls selling all manner of souvineers, food, candies, BBQs and other goodies.
  • And much more...

Year after year an enthusiastic group of democratically elected volunteers takes charge of the FESTIVAL & FAIR COMMITTEE

All this is possible thanks to the residents, friends and children of San Pedro de Zacapa who colaborate in the decorating of the town and the colection of funds which makes it all possible:

Y muy en especial toda la gente linda y servicial de todo el Municipio son los que dan su mayor aporte haciéndose presente para esas fechas de fiesta y toda la contribución incalculable que nos dan al momento de participar en las actividades en materia de recolección de fondos.

Este año 2004 promete tener una de las ferias más inolvidables, ya se esta trabajando en ello, por lo que los invitamos del 21 de junio al 30 de junio.
